From the original
Mike Hammer, Private Eye was an American syndicated television program built around Mickey Spillane's private-detective character Mike Hammer. Unlike the earlier CBS series, it was produced by Jay Bernstein in a less hands-on way, and 26 episodes were made. Stacy Keach returned as Hammer, an attempt to revive the character he had played in Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer and The New Mike Hammer, two moderately successful 1980s CBS shows. Kent Williams was the only other 1980s regular to come back, though in a different role, and Shannon Whirry took over the secretary Velda part that Lindsay Bloom had played previously. The series premiered on September 28, 1997 and ended June 13, 1998, failing to find a wide audience and getting canceled after just one season.
