Paper Weaving Jack-O'-Lantern | What Can We Do With Paper And Glue
PHOTO · PAPER-AND-GLUE.COM

This project turns orange scrapbook paper strips and construction paper into a woven pumpkin decoration. After weaving the strips over and under, you glue the piece to cardstock, trace and cut a pumpkin shape, and optionally add a stem and jack‑o‑lantern face.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Select several orange scrapbook papers with different patterns and cut them into strips that are the same length as your construction paper.
  2. Fold a sheet of construction paper in half lengthwise. Starting at the fold, cut straight lines toward the open edge, spacing them about 1/2 to 1 inch apart, and stop cutting about 1 inch from the edge. Unfold the paper.
  3. Weave one strip across the cut paper using a basic over‑under pattern, starting with over. Push each strip snugly upward as you complete it.
  4. Repeat the weaving process with the remaining strips until the entire construction paper sheet is covered.
  5. Apply glue to one side of the woven paper and attach it to a piece of cardstock.
  6. Allow the glue to dry completely.
  7. Once dry, flip the cardstock over and draw a pumpkin outline on the back. You may use a printable pumpkin template.
  8. Cut out the pumpkin shape along the drawn line, then glue it onto another piece of paper. For a jack‑o‑lantern look, optionally glue on a brown construction paper stem and cut out black construction paper shapes for the face.
