You'll need

Directions

  1. Download the Halloween Unifix Cube Printables for $1.99 and print them out.
  2. Set your printer to "print in the printable area" so the squares fit unifix cubes perfectly.
  3. Optionally cut the two sheets into individual cards, or leave them as full pages.
  4. Place the sheets on a tray so students are encouraged to complete four towers in one sitting.
  5. Give students unifix cubes; have them match the colors and count the blocks, either placing cubes on the printed squares or clicking them into towers, up to the printed number (8-15).

Tips

  • The original unifix cube tower cards covered numbers 1-7 and were too easy for the author's students.
  • Printables were made in two sheets rather than individual cards so they fit well on a tray and encourage four towers at a sitting.
  • Some students will do one tower and be done, but with four on a page they tend to complete all four happily.
  • If a task is too easy, it fails to support learning and boredom can lead to challenging behaviors.
  • Teaching the child in front of you means keeping them in the just-right learning zone (the zone of proximal development).

Facts from the original

  • Halloween is a very big deal when you are 4 or 5 years old.

  • The author calls children over to centers for quick little one-on-one activities.
  • The post contains affiliate links.
