Hanging Puffy Ghosts

Create adorable puffy ghosts using a free template, cotton balls, and black construction paper for faces. Kids can cut, glue, and explore emotions by giving each ghost a different expression. Add yarn to hang them up for festive Halloween décor.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Get the free puffy ghost printable template, or sketch your own ghost shape on cardstock.
  2. Carefully cut out the ghost shape. If a child is handling the scissors, don't worry about perfection—the cotton balls will cover any uneven edges.
  3. Apply Elmer’s liquid school glue to the ghost and press on cotton balls, leaving minimal gaps for a fluffy appearance.
  4. From black construction paper, cut out eyes and a mouth. Experiment with different expressions to show emotions like happy, sad, or surprised. Use this as a chance to chat with kids about feelings and what facial features match each mood. For an extra activity, encourage them to invent a story about why the ghost feels that way, then write it on the back for a keepsake.
  5. Glue the paper eyes and mouth onto the ghost. You might end up with a spooked ghost and a cheerful one waving hello.
  6. Optional: Tape a piece of black yarn to the back of the finished ghost and hang it on a wall or doorknob for Halloween decor.
