This pumpkin pie French toast combines the warm spices of pumpkin pie with the comfort of French toast. Simply dip thick bread slices into a pumpkin custard and cook until golden. Serve with real maple syrup for a festive fall breakfast.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a shallow dish like a pie plate, whisk together 2 large eggs, 1/3 cup pumpkin puree, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon ground clove, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, 1/2 cup whole milk, a dash of salt, and 1-1/2 tablespoons brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  2. Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat. One at a time, dip slices of bread (about 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick white or country loaf) into the custard, letting them soak for about 5 seconds on each side. Allow excess liquid to drip off.
  3. Butter the hot griddle and cook the dipped bread until golden brown on both sides. Repeat with remaining bread slices and custard. Serve with real maple syrup.
