Skeleton Makeup How-To

Learn how to create a realistic skeleton face and neck using cream paints, eyeshadows, and liners. From hollow eyes and detailed teeth to a painted collarbone, each step builds the undead look. Finish with mascara, cracks, and setting spray for a hauntingly glamorous effect.

Directions

  1. Apply a thin layer of white cream makeup over your whole face.
  2. Start shaping the eye sockets by outlining the eye area with black liquid paint. Make sure to completely hide your eyebrows under the paint.
  3. Use black, purple, and silver eyeshadows to fill in the eye sockets, adding depth. Then, line both your upper and lower lash lines with a black eyeliner pencil.
  4. Plan where your teeth will go, then paint each tooth individually with black liquid paint and a small angled brush. Extend the teeth beyond your real mouth, tapering them downward into sharp points to resemble roots.
  5. With black eyeshadow, sketch the curved hollows along your cheekbones and jawline.
  6. Detail each tooth with a small angled brush and black eyeshadow—line, layer, and highlight to make them realistic. Then fill the cheekbone and jawline hollows with black liquid paint.
  7. Refine the details on each tooth with black liquid eyeliner. Sketch your nose shape with a black eyeliner pencil and fill it in with black liquid paint. Paint your neck black from jaw to collarbone, but leave a triangular gap in the center of your neck.
  8. With white liquid paint, draw lines from your jawline down to the bottom center of your neck. Across the empty central triangle, paint white bone-like lines, then fill the rest of that area with black paint. Over the black neck areas, add white lines to define the collarbone and neck structure.
  9. Fill in the remaining face areas with white liquid paint. To set everything and prevent smudging, pat over all painted sections with either black or white eyeshadow using a shadow brush.
  10. Coat your lashes with dark black mascara. Use black liquid eyeliner to draw skull cracks and lines above your eyes. For a glamorous finish, dust highlighting powder over the white areas, then seal everything with a setting spray for long-lasting wear.
