Spooky eyes and teeth for the house
Give your house a frightening makeover with these giant spooky eyes and teeth.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at craftibilities.com.
This Halloween project uses a wood sheet for the teeth and cardboard cake bases for the eyes. The teeth are painted with acrylic and spray paint for a bloody, blended look, while the eyes are colored with permanent markers and sealed with tape. Both are hung using existing lip and Command strips to avoid damage.
You'll need
Directions
- Sketch the desired design directly onto the 4'x8' wood sheet using a sharpie marker.
- Cut along the outline with a saw.
- Apply a thick, messy layer of acrylic paint as a base.
- Begin shaping the teeth on the paint, but leave some space at the top that will be hidden by the house when the piece is hung.
- Add a small amount of yellow paint around the gum area.
- Use brown spray paint now. To blend, apply brown spray paint one tooth at a time. Take a sponge and, since the acrylic paint is still wet, blend it smoothly.
- Add some red spray paint to the gums and blend further. Then add 'blood' on the teeth with more red spray paint.
- Finish with a light application of black spray paint around the edges.
- Position the wood using the existing lip inside the columns so no hooks or nails are needed.
- For the eyes, use cardboard cake bases. Trace objects onto the cardboard: a plastic plate for the eye outline, a spray paint can for the pupil, and a water jug for the eye color area.
- Color the eyes with permanent markers, using two different shades of green.
- Add some bloodshot veins for effect.
- Spray paint the edges of the cardboard eyes red and black.
- Seal both front and back with clear packing tape to protect the cardboard from outdoor weather.
- Attach the eyes to the house using Command strips to avoid damage.
