Directions
- Place a small bowl upside down on the back of a small dessert-size paper plate and trace around it with a pencil. Make sure there is enough space between the traced circle and the plate's edge for punching holes later. Use scissors to poke a starting hole inside the traced circle, then carefully cut along the line to remove the circle.
- Use a hole punch to make holes all the way around the paper plate circle, spacing them about 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart.
- Cut a piece of thick black yarn about 12 feet long. Wrap a small piece of tape around one end of the yarn to keep it from fraying as you sew. Tape the opposite end of the yarn to the back of the paper plate circle. Push the yarn from the back through one hole, then bring it back down through another hole from the front.
- Continue lacing the yarn through the holes, making sure to go through each hole at least once. Fill the circle's interior with yarn as much as possible. When you reach the end of the yarn, tape it securely to the back of the plate.
- For the spider legs, cut four black pipe cleaners in half so you have eight pieces. Bend each piece in half. Insert the bent end of a pipe cleaner through a hole from the front of the plate, then bend the pipe cleaner flat against the back to hold it in place. Repeat with all eight pieces.
- Apply Tacky Glue to the back of several googly eyes and stick them onto the yarn web to create the spider's eyes. Let the glue dry completely before handling.
- Optionally, punch a hole near the top of the paper plate circle, thread a piece of white string through it, and tie the ends. Hang the spider decoration on a wall or from the ceiling for a spooky Halloween effect.
