The best Halloween movies of all time, according to 298 lists.
We counted how often each film appears across 298 ‘best Halloween movies’ lists. The best Halloween movies of all time, by consensus rather than taste.
Everyone has a list of the best Halloween movies of all time, so we collected 298 of them — published ‘best Halloween movies’ articles — and counted how many include each film. The more lists a movie appears on, the higher it ranks here. No critic’s taste set this order; the tally did, and each entry shows its count.
Two things stand out. Agreement is rarer than you’d think: even the winner appears on only about one list in five. And the Halloween franchise is so widely listed that we capped it at three films — the original, Halloween II and H20 — so the rest of October gets a look in. Read the count as a measure of presence, not quality.

Thirteen lists, and the only Día de Muertos film in the top 25. A would-be musician crosses into the Land of the Dead in search of a legendary singer in the family tree.
-
24
ParaNorman
Also on 13 lists. A boy who talks to ghosts turns out to be the only one who can stop a centuries-old curse, zombies and angry grown-ups included. Laika stop-motion at its spookiest.
-
25
Spooky Buddies
Tied on 13 lists, the Halloween outing of Disney’s talking-puppy Buddies rounds out the 25. Its 4.6 rating is the lowest here; its core audience is still learning to read.
Even the winner makes only one list in five. Consensus, it turns out, wears a white mask.
The count reflects the lists we had collected as of September 2026, when we also checked where each film streams; the pills on each title are live. If your favorite missed the top 25, go looking for it in the full Fieldguide watchlist.
