Costumes · LookbookNo. 9904 · The 2026 edition
Group costumes that survive the group chat.
Eight concepts engineered for the real failure modes: the friend who bails, the friend who won't spend money, and the friend who 'will figure it out day-of.'
Group costumes die three ways: someone drops out and breaks the set, the effort gap makes half the group resent the other half, or the concept needs explaining all night. Every idea below is drop-out-proof (still works at any headcount), effort-flexible (each person picks their own level), and legible from across a dark room.
The eight
- 01 · The Weather System — One storm cloud, one sun, one rainbow, one tornado (grey streamers), one weather reporter with a mic. Someone bails? Forecasts change. That's the joke.
- 02 · Traffic — Red, yellow, green head-to-toe. A fourth friend is a stop sign; a fifth is a pedestrian who never stops complaining. Reads instantly at any distance.
- 03 · The Stages of a Cold — Denial (scarf), tissues (taped everywhere), soup era (robe + mug), recovered (smug, athletic wear). Deeply relatable by November 1st.
- 04 · Rock, Paper, Scissors… — The classic trio, plus lizard, Spock, or a referee for extras. Late joiners just become new hand signs.
- 05 · The Sting Operation — Everyone is a bee except one person in a full trench coat and sunglasses: the sting operation. One costume does the comedy; the bees just have to exist.
- 06 · Lost & Found Box — One glove. A single earring. An umbrella. A phone charger. Each person is one lost item; together you're the box. The friend who plans nothing can be 'mystery keys' with zero prep.
- 07 · The Museum Exhibit — One person is the docent (blazer, laminated badge); everyone else stands very still on cue as 'statues.' The lazy friends literally just wear what they own and freeze.
- 08 · Static Channels — Everyone in black hoodies, each with a paper TV screen on the chest showing a different channel — news, cooking show, static, EMERGENCY BROADCAST. Pairs perfectly with the hoodie lookbook below.
Six of these eight start from a plain hoodie or clothes you own — if the group chat is already panicking, send them the ten-costumes-from-one-black-hoodie note and assign channels.
