Costumes · TeensNo. 4537 · The 2026 edition
Teen Halloween costumes they’ll actually wear.
Sixteen looks, each linked to a creator’s how-to, from Practical Magic’s Sally Owens and Harry Styles to a no-sew Spider-Man, a KPop Demon Hunters trio and a last-minute Wednesday Addams.
Halloween costumes for teens have a narrow brief: recognizable on sight, comfortable for a long night and nothing you’ll wince at in photos later. YPulse’s September 2026 data says 79% of teens plan to wear a costume this Halloween, and after watching early Halloween TikTok content it concluded that Gen Z wants something unique even though many are planning the same references. So the twist you add counts for more than the character you pick.
We split the sixteen into pop culture, looks for your friends and last-minute builds, with our strongest picks first in each group, and every card links to a creator’s how-to and shows its difficulty. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so expect a full night out; if plans firm up late, start with the last-minute group. Parents’ 2026 trend guide names characters from Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Practical Magic witches and Harry Styles as top picks for ages 14 to 18, and all three are here.
Sixteen costumes, three ways in
Pop culture: movies, music and a little Y2K
- Ella Langley in the "Choosin' Texas" video — The cowgirl from Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” video: thrifted white shirt and belt, boots, a guitar and a red fringed vest and chaps sewn from faux suede. It suits anyone with a sewing machine; the blogger writes out the patterns and adds long sleeves for cold nights. The tutorial
- Practical Magic: Sally Owens — Think cozy 90s witch, Sally Owens from Practical Magic: a reversible patterned dress under a green cardigan, white sneakers, a long wavy brown wig and a choker, finished with a wax-stamped letter. It’s an outfit breakdown rather than a step-by-step, mostly from pieces you own or thrift. The tutorial
- Lizzie McGuire (Y2K throwback) — Secondhand blouses, bold patterned pants, retro sunglasses and a blonde wig add up to a thrifted early-2000s Lizzie McGuire look. The post shows two outfit versions and where to look for the pieces, and the same finds cover Hannah Montana too. The tutorial
- Spider-Man (no-sew suit) — No sewing: thrift a blue long-sleeve and sweats for the base, add a red tee cut at the sides, red socks, gloves and a mask, then draw the spider and web lines in marker. It’s the classic comics suit, not the one from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The tutorial
- Athena from The Odyssey — Drape a bedsheet or long white dress, belt it with rope or gold and add a leaf headband and gold jewelry for a Greek goddess, no sewing needed. For Athena’s look in the movie The Odyssey, add a hood or shawl, and wear a top and bottoms underneath. The tutorial
- Taylor Swift, Eras Tour "Red" look — From the Eras Tour’s Red era, a Swiftie look: a thrifted white tee with an iron-on slogan, sparkly pants and a long red-to-black sparkly jacket, plus a guitar. The jacket is the sewing project; the tee alone is the quick version. The tutorial
- Harry Styles ("Harryween" looks) — Harry Styles’ stage and red-carpet outfits, faked at home: sequins glued onto black pants and a tank, a pearl necklace over a bright sweater, a feather boa with stacked rings, or a giant paper or felt collar. It covers his earlier looks, not his 2026 tour. The tutorial
With your friends: trios, squads and crews
- HUNTR/X trio (Rumi, Mira and Zoey) — Rumi in black, Mira in white, plus Zoey: three coordinated KPop Demon Hunters looks for a friend group, built from cut-down sweatshirts, gold trim, tassels and snaps. The post marks what’s sewn and what’s no-sew, with the jackets mostly no-sew, and shows Rumi’s purple braid. The tutorial
- Toy Story crew (Jessie costume) — Hand-stitched cow-print chaps, a yellow shirt panel and a red wig turn closet staples like a white button-up, jeans, boots and a cowgirl hat into a grown-up Jessie from Toy Story, no machine needed. The page covers Jessie only, so your crew finds Woody and Buzz elsewhere. The tutorial
- Minion squad — Make a no-sew Minion from a yellow tee and hat, overalls, goggles and black gloves, with a Gru-logo felt patch safety-pinned to the pocket. The page says it works in adult sizes and pairs with a friend as Gru, and the overalls and tee are wearable afterward. The tutorial
- Super Mario crew: Toad — Closet clothes, a frying pan and two homemade pieces make a Toad from Super Mario Bros.: a mushroom hat of fabric, red felt and cardboard, and a blue-tee vest with yellow trim. The page covers Toad only; Mario, Luigi and Peach need separate pieces. The tutorial
- Inside Out 2 trio (Anxiety, Envy and Ennui) — Three feelings from Inside Out 2, mostly in clothes you’ll wear again: a painted-stripe sweater and pipe-cleaner hat for Anxiety, a dotted tee with a Peter Pan collar for Envy, and a navy sweatsuit with big socks over sneakers for Ennui. Fabric paint and hot glue do the crafting. The tutorial
Last-minute: short on time, still in costume
- Wednesday Addams — Start with a black collared dress, or any black dress over a white collared shirt, plus black tights and shoes. The tutorial adds Wednesday’s two side braids, done as fishtails, and bold eye makeup instead of a full pale face. The tutorial
- Rumi (and Jinu) from KPop Demon Hunters — The shortcut to Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters is a cropped jacket over a white turtleneck, a purple braid or temporary hair color, and optional demon-mark face paint. The page adds quick notes for Mira and Zoey, plus the Saja Boys’ Jinu, whose look is just a hoodie and a black jacket from your closet. The tutorial
- Karen's "I'm a Mouse, Duh" tee — Mean Girls in one T-shirt: iron Karen’s line onto a tee with iron-on letters, add mouse ears and you’re Karen at the Halloween party. It’s the easiest costume on this page, a joke that needs an iron and not much else. The tutorial
- Pokémon trainer — Everyday clothes carry this Pokémon trainer: a red zip hoodie with recolored sleeves and cuffs, a cap, tee, jeans and sneakers, plus a sewn Poké Ball and a stuffed Pokémon tucked in the hood. The post is aimed at kids, but the pieces scale up. The tutorial
The best costume is the one you’re still happy wearing at midnight.
Plenty of these get better with company: the Rumi page’s quick notes for Mira and Zoey make it the faster route to a HUNTR/X trio, a friend can be Gru to your Minion, and the Toy Story and Mario pages cover only Jessie and Toad, so Woody, Buzz, Mario, Luigi and Peach need pieces from elsewhere. Settle who’s playing whom before anyone shops, and if the group chat stalls, let whoever owns a sewing machine decide. Several pages carry affiliate or retailer links, so buy only what your closet can’t cover; the full costume shelf has more.
