This recipe uses two 8-inch round cakes to build a black cat shape, then coats it in black icing. Decorate with white eyes, green pupils, whiskers, and a pumpkin collar charm. The result is a festive and fun Halloween centerpiece.
Ingredients
Directions
- Prepare and cool two 8-inch round cakes from your preferred mix following the box directions. Ensure they are completely cooled before proceeding.
- Place one whole cake on a work surface to serve as the body. With a sharp knife, cut the second cake into sections: a large piece for the head, two triangular pieces for ears, and a crescent-shaped piece for the tail.
- Set the body cake on your serving platter. Position the head piece on top of the body, then attach the ear triangles to the top of the head. Arrange the tail crescent along one side of the body.
- Using an offset spatula, spread black icing over the entire assembled cake, smoothing it into an even coating.
- Pipe two white circles for eyes, then add green pupils inside. Use white icing for whiskers and a mouth. With orange icing, pipe a nose and fill in the inner ear details.
- Pipe a green frosting band around the neck for the collar. Fit a piping bag with a small star tip and orange icing to create a pumpkin charm: pipe two opposite-facing crescents, then a vertical line down their center. Finish with a tiny green stem on top.
