These DIY Monster Pudding Jars are a fun Halloween project using simple supplies like baby food jars, pudding, and googly eyes. Create Frankenstein, Mummy, and Pumpkin versions with fabric, tape, and spray paint. Each jar is sealed with plastic wrap to keep the pudding fresh and make a cute party favor.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Remove lids from baby food jars and wash them to remove any leftover food.
  2. Boil water, then put jars in a pan and pour the hot water over them. Allow them to soak for 5 minutes.
  3. Discard the water and gently peel off the labels.
  4. To eliminate any adhesive residue, apply nail polish remover or Goo Gone.
  5. Make the pudding and allow it to cool if necessary. For more vibrant colors, I prefer Wilton gel colors, though standard food coloring also works.
  6. Divide the pudding into separate bowls if creating multiple colors. Dip a toothpick into gel coloring and stir it into the pudding.
  7. Keep mixing until the color is evenly distributed.
  8. Hot glue two large googly eyes onto the front of each jar. Take the lids outside and spray paint them thoroughly. Then fill each jar with the colored pudding of your choice.
  9. For the Frankenstein monster, trace a circle onto black fabric using a cup.
  10. To create a jagged hair effect, cut around the circle with pinking shears.
  11. Cut a long rectangle from vinyl or black tape to serve as Frankenstein's eyebrow.
  12. Prior to attaching the lid, place a small piece of plastic wrap over the jar opening, then lay the fabric circle on top and screw on the lid. This ensures an airtight seal to keep the pudding fresh.
  13. Lastly, hot glue two Rollo candies to opposite sides of the lid to mimic Frankenstein's neck bolts.
  14. For the mummy, take a roll of medical tape and tear off several strips.
  15. I cut each strip lengthwise since the tape was too wide. Wrap the tape around the jar until you are satisfied with the mummy look.
  16. Place the spray-painted lid on top, and the mummy is complete.
  17. For the pumpkin, the process is like Frankenstein's: cut a circular piece of fabric (without pinking this time). Don't forget to place a small piece of plastic wrap over the jar opening before adding the fabric.
  18. Hot glue a Rollo candy on top of the lid, then wrap a few coils of floral wire around the lid's edges to resemble vines.
