Bake a batch of moist, double chocolate donuts and transform them into creepy-crawly spiders using black Red Vines for legs and candy eyes. The quick chocolate glaze seals the deal, making these perfect for Halloween parties or a fun baking project.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 350°F and get all ingredients ready.
  2. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add milk chocolate chips and stir until melted. Remove from heat, then quickly stir in brown sugar and eggs. Add buttermilk and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  3. In a mixer bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Pour in the chocolate mixture and mix on low speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Spoon the batter into a zip-top bag, snip a corner, and pipe it into greased donut pan cavities.
  5. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let donuts rest in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For the glaze, combine powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and milk in a mixer. Beat on low for 1–2 minutes until smooth.
  8. If you plan to hang the donuts, wrap a piece of twine around each one and tie a knot.
  9. Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, then immediately press candy eyes onto each so they stick.
  10. Using a paring knife, slice each black Red Vine lengthwise into two halves, then cut each half into three pieces.
  11. Insert the eight leg pieces into each donut, arranging them to look like spider legs.
  12. Hang them up if desired, then serve and enjoy your spooky treats!
