This project guides you through creating a custom Halloween decoration using a wooden pumpkin, chalkboard paint, and LED rope lights. You will secure the rope light to the pumpkin with hot glue, shape it into letters, and then use chalk to add designs like eyes and cobwebs. The final result is a unique, illuminated sign that combines light and art for a festive touch.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Apply a continuous bead of hot adhesive along the back of the wooden pumpkin. Press the LED rope light into the adhesive, ensuring the battery pack remains concealed on the reverse side. Allow the adhesive to set completely before proceeding.
  2. Position the rope light approximately halfway down the pumpkin. Add a small dab of hot glue to secure the wire in place, then let it cool and harden.
  3. Create a second loop with the rope light. Apply another small amount of hot glue near the bottom of the pumpkin and press the wire into it. Wait for the glue to dry.
  4. Form the letter 'B' by applying a dot of hot glue and pinching the wires together. Hold the shape briefly to allow it to cool. Bend the wire downward to begin the next letter, adjusting the loops for a playful appearance as desired.
  5. Shape two loops to create the letter 'O'. Secure the corners with small dabs of hot glue, holding each loop in place until the adhesive sets. Adjust the positioning as needed for a centered look.
  6. Once the letters are secure, tuck the excess wire behind the pumpkin. The wire framework is now complete, and you can move on to decorating the surface.
  7. Use chalk to draw a design around the illuminated letters. For a fun touch, sketch two eyes on the pumpkin. You can smudge the chalk with your finger to soften the lines or draw googly eyes instead.
  8. Finish the decoration by drawing cobwebs across the pumpkin with chalk. Drag the chalk across the surface to create a spooky, web-like pattern.
