This easy DIY project uses a dollar store styrofoam pumpkin, an old sweater, jute twine, a faux leaf, and a cinnamon stick to create a warm, textured fall decoration. The sweater is glued and tucked into a top hole, then twine is wrapped around and left hanging like vines, topped with a leaf and a cinnamon stick stem.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Pop off the original stem and carve a small square opening at the top of the styrofoam pumpkin, just big enough to hold a cinnamon stick later.
  2. From an old sweater, cut a fabric square that's large enough to wrap completely around the pumpkin.
  3. Apply a dab of hot glue onto the pumpkin surface, then press one corner of the sweater fabric into the top hole to anchor it.
  4. Keep adding glue to the pumpkin, pulling the fabric taut and tucking each new corner into the hole, folding excess fabric under the next corner and securing with a bit of hot glue.
  5. Cut three equal lengths of jute twine that are long enough to go around the pumpkin plus a little extra, then tie them together at their centers.
  6. Set the pumpkin on top of the knot at the center of the twine, take each piece of twine, wrap it around the side of the pumpkin, and tuck the end into the top hole, leaving some excess hanging out to mimic vines.
  7. Glue a faux leaf onto the top of the pumpkin.
  8. Put a ring of hot glue around one end of a cinnamon stick, insert it into the top hole, and hold it steady until the glue sets.
