Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at createdby-diane.com.
A white cake mix is divided and tinted in orange, green, purple, and white, then swirled into two pans. After baking, the cakes are stacked with black frosting and topped with a poured black glaze. Finish with a white "Boo!" piped on top and black jimmies around the edge.
Ingredients
Directions
- Make two batches of white cake mix from a large bag mix. Divide the batter evenly into four separate bowls.
- Add food coloring to each bowl: orange, green, purple, and white (use Americolor white to make one batch extra white). Mix until evenly colored.
- Spoon different amounts of each colored batter into two 7-inch round cake pans, then use a knife to create a swirled pattern.
- Bake according to package directions, then allow cakes to cool completely.
- Trim the tops of the cooled cakes so they are flat and even.
- Flip the top cake upside down so that when you slice it, the design appears as a mirror image of the bottom cake.
- Stir Americolor Super Black into the two store-bought chocolate frostings until fully black.
- Spread a layer of black frosting between the two cakes. Microwave the remaining black frosting for 30 seconds, stir, then pour it over the top of the stacked cake.
- Use an offset spatula to spread the poured frosting, giving the sides a quick swoop and smoothing the top.
- Pipe "Boo!" using white frosting, then press black jimmies around the bottom edge.
