Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at delish.com.
These spooky layered Jell-O shots combine three fruity flavors with vodka and a creamy milk layer. They're made in a muffin pan with quick freezing between layers for a fun Halloween treat.
Ingredients
Directions
- Lightly spray a mini muffin pan with non-stick baking spray and wipe away any excess. Place the pan in the freezer to chill; a colder pan helps the Jell-O set faster.
- Pour 2 1/2 cups water into a 9-inch pie dish. Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over the water and let it bloom for 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer the bloomed mixture to a saucepan and warm over low heat, stirring constantly until the gelatin dissolves and the mixture becomes syrupy. Set aside.
- In three separate bowls, prepare the grape, peach, and melon Jell-O packets following the “fast set” instructions on the packages. Add 3/4 cup vodka to each bowl and stir to combine.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a medium bowl, then add 1 cup of the prepared unflavored gelatin mixture. Stir to combine.
- From the remaining unflavored gelatin mixture, measure out 1 1/2 cups. Add 1/2 cup of this to each of the three flavored Jell-O mixtures (grape, peach, melon) and stir well.
- Remove the chilled muffin pan from the freezer. Pour 1 teaspoon (for mini muffin pan) or 1 tablespoon (for regular muffin pan) of one of the flavored Jell-O mixtures into each well. Return the pan to the freezer for 3 minutes to set. Remove and add 1 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon of the sweetened condensed milk mixture on top. Freeze again for 3 minutes. Repeat layering with the remaining flavored Jell-O mixtures and condensed milk mixture until the wells are full.
- To remove the Jell-O shots, gently press your finger into one shot and pull it toward the center, away from the walls. Use a finger from your other hand to help lever the shot out.
