Ingredients
Directions
- Position a rack in the middle of your oven and heat it to 350°F. Grease a 9 by 5-inch loaf pan with butter, then dust it with flour, tapping out any excess before setting it aside.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, fine sea salt, cocoa powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice until evenly distributed.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth. Gently fold in the dry ingredients, mixing only until no streaks of flour remain. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and level the surface with a spatula. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle emerges clean. Let the cake rest in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar and slice to serve.
