These Halloween spider cupcakes feature a rich chocolate base with a lumpy batter that bakes into moist cakes. The cream cheese-free frosting is piped into pinwheel designs and etched with a toothpick to form cobwebs, making them both delicious and festive.
Ingredients
Directions
- In a bowl, combine vegetable oil, brown sugar, yogurt, vanilla extract, and white vinegar. Stir until well blended.
- Add all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cocoa powder to the wet mixture. Mix until combined, then gradually pour in milk, stirring after each addition, until you have a lumpy batter.
- Pour batter into cupcake liners and bake at 400°F (220°C) for 5 minutes. Then reduce oven temperature by 100°F (to 300°F or 120°C) and bake for another 5 minutes. Let cupcakes cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
- For the frosting, whip together whipping cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Transfer to a piping bag, snip the tip, and pipe pinwheel shapes onto the cooled cupcakes. Use a toothpick to drag lines from the center outward, creating a cobweb pattern.
