This project turns a regular pumpkin into a spooky skull decoration by hollowing it out, carving facial features, and filling the cavity with a homemade orange and red colored mixture to resemble an exposed brain.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Spread a layer of newspaper across your table or counter to protect the surface from any spills or debris.
  2. Slice horizontally around the stem of the pumpkin to remove the lid, giving you access to the inside.
  3. Use a sturdy spoon to scrape away all the stringy pulp and seeds until the interior walls are clean.
  4. Carve out the facial features of a skull, carefully shaping the eye sockets, nasal opening, and a row of teeth.
  5. Combine orange and red food coloring with a small amount of water in a bowl to form a thick, colorful liquid.
  6. Pour or spoon the colored mixture into the hollowed pumpkin so it pools at the bottom, mimicking a gory brain.
  7. Place your finished creation on display to share your eerie Halloween decoration with others.
