Learn how to create eye-catching marbled pumpkins by dipping them in water infused with colorful non-gel nail polish. This step-by-step guide covers preparing the water, swirling the polish, submerging the pumpkins, and drying your festive creations for a unique Halloween display.

Directions

  1. Start by filling a large container with enough lukewarm or room-temperature water to fully cover a mini pumpkin. Avoid using cold water, as it makes the polish harden too fast and creates a thick layer on top. Select your first non-gel nail polish color and carefully drip 5 to 10 drops onto the water, aiming for the surface. Do not use gel polish, since it needs UV light to dry. Repeat with two or three additional colors, scattering the drops randomly across the top. Once all the colors are in the bucket, take a toothpick and gently drag it through the drops to blend them into a marbled pattern.
  2. Wear plastic gloves to protect your hands, since nail polish stains easily. Work quickly before the polish begins to set. Place a mini pumpkin stem-first onto the water and press it down until it is fully underwater. While it is submerged, rotate the pumpkin to catch any leftover polish and ensure even coverage. Lift the pumpkin out and lay it on a paper towel to dry. If your polish is too thick and won't spread, add a drop of thinner or switch to a fresh bottle.
  3. Before dipping the next pumpkin, use a toothpick or paper towel to skim off any polish floating on the surface. You do not need to replace the water between pumpkins. Allow the decorated pumpkins to air dry in a well-ventilated space or outdoors for at least one hour, as they will have a strong polish scent while wet. Once dry, arrange them as a festive centerpiece or display them on a shelf or mantel.
