This guide walks you through crafting two distinct twine pumpkins using wired jute cord and plain jute twine. The first design involves coiling wired jute around a candle or glass, securing the shape, and joining two coils with a short strip of cord before adding a decorative stem. The second method requires winding plain jute twine around a paper towel tube, securing each coil with 4-inch pieces, and tying four coils together with an 8-inch strip before fluffing them into a round shape. Both projects use basic materials like spray glue, scissors, and a ruler to create charming seasonal decor.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Measure and snip a 6-inch length of wired jute cord, then place it aside for later use.
  2. Apply a small amount of spray adhesive to any exposed wire ends to keep them from fraying or coming loose.
  3. Take the rest of the wired jute cord and coil it tightly around a candle or a drinking glass.
  4. Gently lift the coiled cord off the candle or glass, being careful not to disturb its shape.
  5. Loop both loose ends of the wired cord around the middle of the coil and twist them together to hold the shape.
  6. Repeat the coiling process with the second roll of jute cord, but skip cutting the initial 6-inch piece this time.
  7. Take the 6-inch strip you saved earlier and wrap it around the center of the two coiled sections to join them together.
  8. Attach a decorative stem or foliage to the top, such as a small pinecone for the stem and a piece of burlap shaped like a leaf.
  9. Cut four separate 4-inch lengths of plain jute twine.
  10. Measure and cut one 8-inch piece of jute twine, then set it aside.
  11. Wind the jute twine around a paper towel tube exactly 20 times.
  12. Slide the wound twine off the tube and pinch it gently between your thumb and forefinger to maintain the coil.
  13. Take one of the 4-inch twine pieces and tie it tightly around the center of the coil to secure it.
  14. Repeat the winding and tying process three more times to create a total of four identical coils.
  15. Use the 8-inch twine strip to tie all four coils together in the center with a firm knot.
  16. Gently pull apart the layers of each coil to fluff them up, giving the pumpkin a full, round appearance.
  17. Finish the decoration by attaching a stem, such as a miniature pinecone, to the top.
