Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at sugarandcharm.com.
This layered Oreo Halloween cake combines a rich chocolate cake with a luscious cookies-and-cream frosting. The frosting is made by creaming butter, cream cheese, and shortening, then adding corn syrup, vanilla, and powdered sugar for a silky texture. Crushed Oreos are folded in at the end for that classic cookies-and-cream flavor.
Ingredients
Directions
- Prepare the chocolate cake using your favorite recipe and bake according to the method described above.
- In a mixing bowl with a paddle attachment, combine the room-temperature butter, cream cheese, and shortening. Beat on high until the mixture is light and fluffy. Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature to avoid lumps.
- Scrape down the bowl, then slowly add the corn syrup and 1 tablespoon of vanilla while mixing on low. Increase speed and beat until the mixture is silky smooth and glossy white, about 3 minutes.
- Scrape down the bowl again. With the mixer on low, add the powdered sugar, salt, baking powder, and lemon juice. Mix until just combined, then increase speed to medium-high and beat until the frosting is brilliant white, smooth, and fluffy, about 4 minutes.
- Gently fold in the crushed Oreo cookies with just a few strokes until evenly distributed.
- Store the frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
