Give plastic pumpkins and candy buckets a weathered, industrial look using a rust-effect kit. The multi-step process builds up a realistic rust patina, then you add black paint to the carved faces for a finished jack-o-lantern appearance.
You'll need
Directions
- Brush on two coats of the rust-brown primer from the kit onto the plastic pumpkins. For better adhesion on smooth surfaces, you can first spray with regular flat grey primer, though this is optional.
- Apply two coats of the iron paint from the kit, letting it dry quickly between each coat.
- Take the pumpkins outside and mist on a light layer of the rust activator. Wait a few minutes, then apply a second mist layer.
- Let the rust activator work. In humid conditions, it may take up to 48 hours to fully develop the rust patina; on dry days, it processes faster.
- Spritz on the sealer as directed in the kit instructions to protect the finish.
- To complete the look, repaint the face indents of the jack-o-lanterns with black craft paint.
