Swirly Halloween Cupcakes
Create spooky swirled cupcakes with vibrant orange, green, and purple buttercream stripes.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at makebakecelebrate.com.
These Halloween cupcakes feature a colorful swirl effect made by layering three tinted buttercreams in the piping bag. Start with a 'blob' in the center for height, then finish frosting normally. Add a fake spider for extra creepiness.
Ingredients
Directions
- Prepare a large batch of your preferred buttercream — about one and a half batches to ensure plenty for practice.
- Divide the buttercream evenly into three bowls. Tint one bowl orange, one green (use lime gel or a mix of green and yellow), and one purple.
- Insert a Wilton 2A tip into each of your piping bags and stand them upright in cups for easy filling. To save time, prep multiple bags — you'll need a fresh bag each time you refill.
- Hold a piping bag in your hand and spoon a small amount of each colored buttercream side by side into the bag.
- Once the narrow part of the bag is filled, set it in a cup to fill the rest. Fold the bag over the cup's edge, fill to just above the rim, then turn the bag upright.
- Squeeze out a little frosting until all three colors appear together. To avoid waste, pipe a small 'blob' of icing in the center of each cupcake first (this also adds height). Then finish frosting the cupcake as usual. For a creepy touch, top each cupcake with a faux spider.
