These festive cupcakes feature a rich brownie base topped with bright orange cake. Made from scratch brownie batter and a boxed white cake mix dyed orange, they bake up in about 20 minutes. Finish with buttercream and sprinkles for a crowd-pleasing Halloween dessert.

  1. Set the oven to 350°F and place liners in 24 cupcake wells.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup sugar, ½ cup flour, ⅓ cup Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon baking powder.
  3. In a large liquid measuring cup, combine ⅓ cup vegetable oil, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat with a fork until blended.
  4. Pour the oil mixture into the dry ingredients and stir with a spatula just until combined; set aside.
  5. In another large bowl, prepare the 15.25 ounce white cake mix according to package directions, then stir in orange food coloring until the desired shade is reached.
  6. Drop about 2 teaspoons (a small cookie scoop) of brownie batter into the bottom of each liner.
  7. Top each with about 1.5 tablespoons (a medium cookie scoop) of orange cake batter.
  8. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool completely, then frost with buttercream and add sprinkles.
  10. Serve and enjoy these spooky treats!
