This Cookie Monster pumpkin craft turns a painted pumpkin into a cookie-loving character. With blue paint, Styrofoam eyes, and a pile of cookies spilling from its mouth, it's a whimsical Halloween decoration. The simple steps make it easy for kids and adults to create together.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Slice open your pumpkin from either the top or bottom, then scoop out all the seeds and stringy insides.
  2. Apply a full coat of cobalt blue paint to the pumpkin's exterior; a second coat will likely be needed for even coverage.
  3. After the paint is fully dry, carve out a large mouth shape in the pumpkin.
  4. Use a black Sharpie marker to color the pupils onto the Styrofoam balls, creating eyeballs.
  5. Attach the eyeballs to the pumpkin with hot glue, positioning one eye angling upward for a playful look.
  6. Slide a piece of cake cardboard under the pumpkin so it protrudes out from below.
  7. Stack cookies so they appear to spill out from the carved mouth opening.
