These creepy intestines are made by wrapping sweet Italian sausage in puff pastry, stretching them to look like entrails, and baking until golden. A cherry beet sauce adds a bloody sheen that completes the Halloween horror effect. They're easy to assemble and perfect for a spooky party.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 400°F to preheat.
  2. Lay the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and slice each sheet lengthwise into two strips.
  3. Use scissors or a knife to remove the sausage casings.
  4. Position a sausage along one edge of a pastry strip, then roll it up tightly, pinching the ends to seal. Do the same with the other three sausage-pastry pairs.
  5. Gently stretch each rolled sausage pastry to lengthen it slightly. Hold it up and let gravity do its work to elongate it further.
  6. Arrange the sausage pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a wiggly, intestine-like pattern.
  7. Whisk the egg with the water and brush this wash over the pastries.
  8. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, until the pastry turns golden brown.
  9. Allow the pastries to cool, then brush or drizzle the cherry beet sauce on top. Serve.
