Create a fun scuba diver costume using 2-liter bottles as oxygen tanks, sponge curlers as gear, and foam flippers. This step-by-step guide shows how to assemble the outfit with felt straps, decorative tape, and a fishing net for an authentic underwater look.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Measure around your child's waist with electrical tape, folding the tape onto itself so it's not sticky. Use an extra piece of tape to hold it together when trick-or-treating.
  2. Weave the electrical tape through lightweight sponge hair curlers in colors matching each outfit to create scuba gear accessories.
  3. Clean four 2-liter soda bottles, then spray paint them outdoors in a well-ventilated area with peach and green paint.
  4. Once dry, decorate the bottles with black electrical tape and silver washi tape.
  5. Place the bottles side by side and hot glue them together.
  6. Cut two pieces of peach felt and two pieces of green felt, each about 6" x 7". Measure around your child's shoulders and cut cotton rope for straps. Wrap scotch tape around rope ends to prevent fraying.
  7. Hot glue the first piece of felt to the center of the bottles. Then glue the top and bottom of the cotton rope to the top and bottom of the felt to create the strap.
  8. Hot glue the second piece of felt on top for a clean finish.
  9. Cut a rough flipper shape from crafting foam (two per costume). Then cut a U-shape the width of the flipper and two skinny detail pieces.
  10. Hot glue all pieces onto the foam flipper. Punch two holes on each side of the shoe area and add string to tie around your child's foot for trick-or-treating.
