Easy Halloween Hand Pies - Just a Taste
PHOTO · JUSTATASTE.COM

These easy hand pies use store-bought crust and raspberry jam for a simple but ghoulish treat. Cut into hand shapes, filled with jam, and baked until golden, they're finished with a jam and almond 'fingernail' garnish. Perfect for Halloween parties or a fun baking project.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 425°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Dust your countertop with flour and unroll the pie crusts. Using a sharp knife, cut around a hand-shaped template or use a hand cookie cutter to create hand shapes. Place half of the hands on the prepared baking sheets, leaving at least 2 inches between them. Re-roll the dough scraps to 1/4-inch thickness and cut more hands if needed.
  3. Spoon a small amount of jam into the center of each hand on the baking sheets.
  4. Top each jam-covered hand with another hand shape, gently pressing to seal the edges. Use a fork to crimp the edges around the palm area, sealing the filling inside. Lightly press the finger edges without crimping.
  5. With a paring knife, cut small slits on the fingers to mimic knuckle lines.
  6. Brush the hand pies entirely with the egg wash, then bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown and fully cooked; timing depends on pie size.
  7. Take the hand pies out of the oven. Place a tiny dab of jam on each fingertip and press an almond slice onto it to create a fingernail.
  8. Enjoy the hand pies right away, or keep them in an airtight container at room temperature.
