These Halloween hand pies use store-bought crust and fruit jam to create a fun, spooky treat. The hand-shaped pastries are filled with jam, baked until golden, and finished with almond fingernails. Perfect for parties, they can be served immediately or stored at room temperature.
Ingredients
Directions
- Set your oven to 425°F. Prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
- Dust your work surface with a little flour and unroll the pie crusts. Use a sharp knife to trace around a hand-shaped template or a hand cookie cutter. Place half of the cut-out hands on the prepared baking sheets, leaving at least 2 inches between them. If you have leftover dough, gather and reroll it to 1/4-inch thickness to cut out more hands.
- Spoon a small amount of jam onto the center of each hand on the baking sheets.
- Top each jam-topped hand with another hand cut-out and press gently around the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges along the palm area to securely enclose the jam. For the fingers (which have no filling), just press them together lightly without crimping.
- With a paring knife, cut small slits on the fingers at the knuckle positions.
- Brush the hand pies entirely with the egg wash. Bake until they turn golden brown and are fully cooked, about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on their size.
- Take the hand pies out of the oven. Place a tiny dab of jam on the tip of each finger and press a sliced almond onto it to create the fingernails.
- Enjoy the hand pies right away, or keep them in an airtight container at room temperature.
