Our own summary of the original by Kim - InsanelyGood — the full post and photos live at insanelygoodrecipes.com.
These Halloween Cakesicles transform a simple boxed cake into festive cake pops shaped like popsicles. You'll bake the cake, mix it with frosting, mold it, and coat it in chocolate before decorating with spooky sprinkles and candy eyes. They're perfect for parties and require a cakesicle mold.
Ingredients
Directions
- Prepare the cake batter following the directions on the cake mix box, using the eggs, oil, and water as indicated. Bake the cake as directed.
- Allow the cake to cool down completely to room temperature.
- Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs, then stir in the prepared frosting until well combined.
- Place the cake-frosting mixture in the refrigerator to chill until you're ready to use it.
- Melt the chocolate or candy melts in the microwave, heating in 30-second bursts and stirring between each, until smooth.
- Use a brush to coat the inside of the cakesicle mold with a thin layer of melted chocolate. Refrigerate for 10 minutes, then apply a second coat of chocolate.
- Chill the molds again, then gently pack the cake mixture into the cavities, leaving a small gap at the top for sealing.
- Carefully insert a popsicle stick into the designated slot in the mold, pressing the cake mix down around it to hold it in place.
- Brush additional melted chocolate over the top to seal each cakesicle completely. Place the molds in the fridge for 30 to 60 minutes to let everything set.
- Remove the cakesicles from the mold carefully. Decorate with more melted chocolate, Halloween sprinkles, and candy eyes as desired.
