Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at buildyourbite.com.
This Halloween crack starts with a base of saltine crackers topped with a buttery brown sugar glaze, baked until bubbly, then covered with melted chocolate and festive candies. After a chill in the fridge, it's broken into pieces for a crunchy, addictive treat that's perfect for parties or gifting.
Ingredients
Directions
- Start by heating your oven to 350°F.
- Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in neat rows.
- In a saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches a boil. Let it boil for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Pour the hot butter-sugar mixture over the saltines and use a rubber spatula to spread it evenly.
- Bake the crackers for 4–5 minutes, until the topping is browned and bubbly.
- Take the sheet out of the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top.
- Wait 5 minutes for the chocolate to soften, then use a rubber spatula to spread it evenly across the crackers.
- Decorate with your choice of toppings—we used candy eyes, Halloween sprinkles, Reese's Pieces, and candy corn.
- Refrigerate the crack for at least 1–2 hours, until the chocolate is completely set.
- Break the candy into pieces and serve. Store any leftovers in a freezer-safe zip-top bag.
