These Halloween cupcakes are fun to make with easy ingredients. Decorate vanilla cupcakes as witch hats with Oreos and Hershey's Kisses, spiders with pretzel legs, eyeballs with gumdrops, and jack-o'-lanterns with Tootsie roll stems. Each design uses simple decorating techniques like colored icing, candies, and gel writers.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. For our first design, we made Witch's Hat cupcakes. We colored vanilla icing green with food coloring and frosted the cupcakes. We separated Oreos and placed one half on each cupcake. We mixed a bit of vanilla icing with orange coloring and put a dollop in the center of the Oreo. We added fall sprinkles on top. Then we set a Hershey's Kiss in the middle of the orange icing to form the hat. Finally, we arranged leaf sprinkles in a circle around the hat.
  2. Next, we created Spider cupcakes. We tinted vanilla icing yellow and iced the cupcakes. We used another half Oreo for the spider's head. We glued eyeball sprinkles onto green M&Ms with melted chocolate and let them set in the fridge for a few minutes. For fangs, we cut off the white tip of candy corn and attached them to the Oreo with melted chocolate. We broke pretzels to get the longer rounded pieces and inserted four on each side of the Oreo as legs.
  3. For the eyeball cupcakes, we used plain white icing to frost them. We sliced the bottom off a gumdrop with a butter knife to create a round disc. We stuck a chocolate chip into the sticky top of the gumdrop. We placed the gumdrop in the center of the cupcake. Then we used red gel icing to draw squiggly lines for eye veins.
  4. Finally, we made Jack-O'-Lantern cupcakes. We colored vanilla icing orange by mixing red and yellow food coloring since we didn't have orange. We frosted the cupcakes orange. We used a piece of Tootsie roll as the pumpkin stem. We cut green candy tape into long thin strips with scissors and curled them around the top to look like vines. We also cut some pieces into small leaves. We used black gel writer to draw different faces on each pumpkin.
