These Halloween cupcakes feature a rich chocolate base and a creamy buttercream frosting tinted in purple, green, and orange. After baking and cooling, you'll pipe the frosting into tall swirls and top with festive sprinkles, spider rings, or silly glasses for a fun treat.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center.
  2. Add the eggs, vegetable oil, water, and vanilla extract into the well.
  3. Using a hand mixer, blend the mixture until smooth.
  4. Line a muffin tin with paper liners and fill each cup about 1/2 to 3/4 full. This batter yields 12 cupcakes.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 13–15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
  7. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream one tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
  9. Divide the frosting into three bowls. Stir in purple, green, and orange food coloring into each bowl. Add more coloring for a bolder shade.
  10. Pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes in a circular motion, starting from the outside and swirling upward to create a mountain of frosting.
  11. Decorate each cupcake with Halloween sprinkles, spider rings, or silly spooky glasses from the store.
