Ingredients
Directions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center.
- Add the eggs, vegetable oil, water, and vanilla extract into the well.
- Using a hand mixer, blend the mixture until smooth.
- Line a muffin tin with paper liners and fill each cup about 1/2 to 3/4 full. This batter yields 12 cupcakes.
- Bake at 350°F for 13–15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
- In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream one tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
- Divide the frosting into three bowls. Stir in purple, green, and orange food coloring into each bowl. Add more coloring for a bolder shade.
- Pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes in a circular motion, starting from the outside and swirling upward to create a mountain of frosting.
- Decorate each cupcake with Halloween sprinkles, spider rings, or silly spooky glasses from the store.
