These Halloween Frankenstein donuts start with maple bars dipped in a homemade green maple glaze. While the glaze is tacky, add yellow and green candy eyeballs for eyes and nose. Finish with melted chocolate piped into hair, mouth, and scar details.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine 1 cup of powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons of maple syrup, 1 tablespoon of vanilla, 1 to 2 teaspoons of water, and green food coloring. Whisk everything together until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
  2. Take a maple bar donut and dip its top side into the green glaze, holding it upside down. Set the donut on a cooling rack or a piece of parchment paper.
  3. While the glaze is still wet and hasn't formed a crust, place the yellow monster candy eyeballs for the eyes. Then take a green monster candy eyeball, flip it upside down, and press it gently into the glaze for the nose.
  4. Let the donut sit until the maple glaze has set and formed a crust on top.
  5. If you're using candy melts, microwave them at 50% power for 1 minute, then continue in 30-second bursts until fully melted. Alternatively, you can use a black frosting writer straight from the tube.
  6. Transfer the melted chocolate (or use the frosting writer) into a piping bag or a squeeze bottle. Carefully pipe the chocolate onto the donut to create Frankenstein's face—add spiky hair, a stitched mouth, and a scar on the forehead.
