Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at hgtv.com.
This pirate look starts with a darker foundation and bold, unkempt brows. Use brown and black eyeshadows to create tired eyes, hollow cheeks, and realistic wrinkles, then finish with a stippled beard and age spots for a sun-beaten, salty appearance.
Directions
- Apply a foundation to your face and neck that is several shades darker than your natural skin tone.
- Fill in your eyebrows with a dark eyebrow pencil, making them thicker than usual. Using a small craft brush and brown or black eyeshadow, create tiny upward strokes to simulate extra hairs, varying thickness and length for a bushy, uneven look.
- With an eyeshadow brush, sweep brown eyeshadow into the crease of your eyes and blend downward onto the lower lid to achieve a tired appearance. Line both upper and lower lash lines with black eyeliner, then use a small craft brush to soften and blend the liner with black eyeshadow.
- Using a craft brush and brown eyeshadow, contour beneath your cheekbones, blending down and outward to create a hollow effect. Add wrinkles by drawing crease lines between your eyebrows, along the nasolabial folds, and a few on your forehead. Apply shading under your bottom lip, then add gray eyeshadow to parts of these lines—the more color, the more realistic. Pucker your lips and add dark shadow to any natural lip lines.
- For a beard effect, dip a stipple sponge into black and brown cream makeup and lightly dot it over your face. To create age spots and uneven skin tone, use the stipple sponge to dab gray and brown eyeshadow onto your forehead and cheeks. Finally, pat on translucent powder with a puff and brush off the excess to set the makeup.
