Start with a chocolate cake mix and simple ingredients to bake black-liner cupcakes. Once cooled, decorate with orange and black frosting, candy eyes, and other creepy toppings for a fun, customizable Halloween dessert.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F and place black liners into cupcake pans.
  2. Give each liner a light coating of nonstick spray or coconut oil spray.
  3. Combine all wet ingredients, then add the cake mix and mix thoroughly until the batter is smooth.
  4. Fill each liner about three-quarters full with batter, then bake for 20–22 minutes. Check with a toothpick—if it comes out clean, they're done. Since ovens differ, you may need extra time to ensure they bake fully.
  5. When the cupcakes are finished, take them out of the oven and allow them to cool completely before adding any frosting.
  6. Prepare two separate batches of frosting—one orange, one black (or any colors you like for your celebration).
  7. Pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes using piping bags; it doesn't need to be perfect. Alternatively, spread it on with a spatula or the back of a spoon. Then decorate with candy eyes and other spooky decorations—crazy and scary is best. For extra fun, add themed candies like little skeleton heads. Be creative and enjoy!
