This recipe guides you through creating festive pumpkin-shaped peanut butter balls using butter, smooth peanut butter, orange food coloring, icing sugar, and pecans. The process involves melting butter, combining it with peanut butter and coloring, mixing in icing sugar to form a dough, shaping the mixture into balls, adding pecan stems, and chilling the treats before serving.
Ingredients
Directions
- Melt the butter gently using either a microwave or a small saucepan over low heat.
- Place the smooth peanut butter into a large mixing bowl and pour the melted butter over it.
- Stir the butter and peanut butter together until the blend is completely smooth. Mix in the orange gel food coloring until the color is uniform throughout.
- Sift in the icing sugar and continue stirring until fully incorporated. The mixture will look crumbly, so use your hands to press it together into a cohesive dough.
- Prepare a small baking sheet or plate by covering it with parchment or wax paper.
- Pinch off portions of the dough and roll them into spheres roughly the size of walnuts. Arrange the balls on your prepared surface.
- Slice each pecan nut in half lengthwise along the natural groove, then cut each half in half again to create four small pieces for the stems.
- Insert a small pecan piece into the top of each ball to act as a stem. Gently press lines into the sides of the balls with the back of a knife to mimic pumpkin ridges.
- Refrigerate the treats for a minimum of 15 minutes to set.
