These Halloween Rocky Road Slices combine a rich chocolate base with peanuts, marshmallows, and candy bars, then are topped with gummy worms, M&Ms, and candy eyes. The mixture is swirled with colored candy melts and chilled until firm. Decorate before the chocolate sets and slice into squares for a perfect party treat.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Prepare an 8-inch or 9-inch square pan by lining it with parchment paper. (The 8-inch pan yields thicker slices, while the 9-inch gives thinner ones.)
  2. In a large bowl, combine the butter, chocolate chips, and salt.
  3. Heat the mixture in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is fully melted.
  4. In separate bowls, melt the candy melts in the microwave using 20-30 second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and liquefied. Set these aside.
  5. Chop the Kit Kat bars into pieces (cutting each wafer in half works well). If using other candy bars, cut them to a similar size and set aside.
  6. Let the chocolate base cool a bit, then stir in the peanuts and chopped candy bars. It's fine if the chocolate coating on the candy bars begins to melt.
  7. Add the marshmallows last to keep them from dissolving in the warm chocolate. Fold them gently into the mixture.
  8. Empty the rocky road mixture into the lined pan, dropping dollops of the melted candy melts on top. Swirl everything together and spread evenly. Use an offset spatula to gently press the mixture so it fills the pan uniformly and reaches all edges.
  9. Decorate the surface while the chocolate is still wet so that the toppings adhere.
  10. Before decorating, use a knife tip to lightly score the surface where you plan to cut later. You can slice this into 5x5 (25 pieces) or 4x4 (16 pieces). This marking helps you avoid placing non-cuttable candies along the cut lines.
  11. Arrange gummy worms on the surface wherever you like, pressing them lightly to ensure they stick.
  12. Next, add Ghoul M&Ms and candy eyes between the gummy worms, being careful to stay away from your scored cut lines so the knife won't have to cut through them. Sprinkle Halloween sprinkles over the top to add more decoration.
  13. If desired, use a small amount of extra melted chocolate to help glue the toppings in place.
  14. Refrigerate the pan until the chocolate is fully hardened (I usually let it set overnight).
  15. The next day, lift the rocky road out of the pan and slice along the scored lines with a sharp knife. If needed, warm the knife in hot water to make cutting easier.
  16. Store the slices in an airtight container in the fridge. Serve when desired.
