Halloween Skull & Dagger Cake
Create a spooky centerpiece with this skull cake topped by a dagger and dripping red gel frosting.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at culinaryginger.com.
This Halloween skull cake is made from a box mix baked in a skull pan, then covered with antique white fondant. Shading with cake paint brings the skull to life, and a dagger plunged into the top drips red gel frosting for a gory finish.
Ingredients
Directions
- Prepare the yellow cake mix according to the package instructions, then bake it in a skull-shaped cake pan.
- Allow the cake to cool completely. Spread frosting to join the two halves together and set them on a cake stand.
- Roll out the antique white fondant until thin, but not so thin that it tears. Use a rolling pin to lift and drape it over the cake, then smooth it down and trim off the excess.
- Apply Wilton cake paint to create shading in the skull's eye sockets, nose, and mouth.
- Insert the dagger into the top of the skull and drizzle red gel frosting over it.
