Halloween Spider Surprise Cake
Surprise your guests with a hollow cake hiding spooky spiders inside!
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at pizzazzerie.com.
This cake is made from two 8-inch rounds sliced into four layers. Three layers are stacked and a 2.5-inch hole is cut through the center. After frosting each layer, the top layer (without a hole) is placed on top, then the whole cake is frosted and decorated with spider candies.
Ingredients
Directions
- Prepare two 8-inch round cakes using your preferred white cake recipe. Once they have cooled completely, cut each round horizontally into two even layers, giving you four layers total.
- Take three of the four cake layers and stack them together. Using a knife, carve a hole approximately 2.5 inches in diameter through the center of the stack. Remove the cut-out cake pieces so that you have an open cavity.
- Unstack the three layers and spread a layer of vanilla frosting on top of each one.
- Restack the three frosted layers, making sure there is frosting between each.
- Place the remaining fourth layer, which has no hole, on top of the stack.
- Apply a generous coat of vanilla frosting over the entire cake, then garnish with the spider decorations.
