This haunted mansion bloody wedding cake starts with a white cake mix baked into a single or three-layer cake. A fluffy buttercream frosting is piped in swirls, then finished with dramatic red food coloring splatters for a gory effect.
Ingredients
Directions
- Set your oven to 350°F to preheat.
- In a large bowl, stir together the white cake mix, 1 cup water, 3 egg whites, and vegetable oil.
- Whisk the mixture until it becomes smooth and free of lumps.
- Transfer the batter into a greased 8-inch cake pan.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely.
- Decide whether to keep the cake as a single layer or slice it horizontally into three layers.
- In a mixer bowl, cream together the softened butter and shortening until smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract and powdered sugar, mixing until fully combined and creamy.
- Pour in 1/4 cup water and beat on high speed for 3 to 5 minutes until fluffy. If needed, add more water one tablespoon at a time.
- Spread a thin layer of white frosting over the cooled cake.
- Fit a piping bag with a large star tip and fill it with the remaining frosting.
- Pipe decorative swirls all over the cake.
- For the blood splatter effect, you can either splatter the entire cake or splatter each slice after cutting.
- Dip a clean hand or a new toothbrush into red liquid food coloring, then flick it onto the cake to create splatters.
