This Halloween graveyard cake combines a chocolate dirt cake base with edible headstone cookies, meringue bones, and a pretzel fence. Gummy worms, cotton candy spider webs, and ghost decorations complete the eerie effect. It's a fun, make-ahead dessert that will impress your party guests.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Make half a batch of Jane's Dirt Cake in a 2½-quart rectangular baking dish. Refrigerate for at least four hours (you can also do this a day ahead).
  2. Bake a half batch of Espresso Shortbread Headstone cookies. Decorate them as you like, then store in an airtight tin.
  3. Pipe Sweet Bones (meringue) into different shapes and sizes. Bake them, add chocolate details if you want, and keep in an airtight container.
  4. Arrange 50 pretzel sticks around the edge of the cake to form a fence.
  5. Stick the meringue bones and cookie headstones upright into the cake so they stand firmly.
  6. Fill any gaps with gummy worms and extra bones.
  7. Pull apart ½ cup of cotton candy to create edible spider webs. Drape these over the pretzel fence or between the headstones.
  8. Place a ghost in each corner of the cake.
