How to Paint a Clown Face For Halloween | HGTV
PHOTO · HGTV.COM

This step‑by‑step guide shows how to create a rainbow clown face with white, blue, red, yellow, and pink paints. From blended half‑circles over the eyes to a classic red mouth with black outlines, each step is simple to follow. The final touch of tiny lines under the eyes adds a cheerful accent.

Directions

  1. Using a makeup sponge and a brush, dab white face paint onto only the eye area and nose. Gently blend the paint outward from the eyes and nose so the edges fade into the skin, avoiding any sharp lines.
  2. With a brush and blue face paint, paint a half‑circle over one eye, following the line of the eyebrow. Blend the blue into the white so the colors merge.
  3. Repeat the half‑circle shape over the other eye, this time using red face paint, covering about half of that eye area.
  4. Fill the remaining part of the eyebrow and the upper eyelid with yellow face paint. Lightly blend the yellow into the neighboring colors.
  5. Take a black eyeliner pencil and draw a half‑circle just above the child’s natural eyebrow, then draw a line that follows the natural brow shape underneath.
  6. Using a craft brush and red face paint, create three small dots in a row on one cheek.
  7. On the other cheek, paint one larger circle using pink face paint.
  8. For the clown mouth, start by applying red lip liner slightly outside the natural lip line, then fill in the lips with the same color. Extend the line outward from the corners of the mouth and finish each extension with a small circle.
  9. Trace the outline of the lips with black liquid eyeliner.
  10. Finish by drawing a few short lines just beneath the lower eyelid.
