Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at theidearoom.net.
Mr. Bones is a competitive dice game where players roll to collect skeleton parts from a central pile. Special roll outcomes allow stealing or resetting progress. The first to complete their entire skeleton wins.
Directions
- Print or trace skeleton images onto white cardstock, glue them onto black cardstock, apply a layer of Mod Podge for durability, then cut out each bone individually—you'll need one complete set of skeleton parts per participant.
- Create two game dice by painting wooden cubes white, covering them with polka dot paper, and affixing tiny die-cut images: one die features skeleton parts (skull, rib cage, clavicle, upper arm, lower arm, hand, pelvis, upper leg, lower leg, foot), while the other die has skull and crossbones symbols for special moves.
- Decorate a craft box by painting it white and embellishing with decorative scrapbook paper to hold the game pieces.
- Arrange all the loose bone pieces in a central pile on the playing surface.
- On each turn, a player rolls both dice. The combination rolled indicates which specific bone or bones they may pick up from the central pile.
- Rolling exactly one skull and crossbones allows you to steal a bone from any opponent.
- If both dice show skull and crossbones, you must relinquish every bone you've collected back to the pile and begin again from scratch.
- The first person to assemble a complete Mr. Bones skeleton from all the required parts is declared the winner.
