Add a touch of glam to your Halloween display by pressing nailhead trim into pumpkins. This no-carve method works on real or faux pumpkins and requires no hammer. Sketch your pattern first to avoid mistakes, then simply push the nails in by hand.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Before you begin, picture the design you want and lightly draw its outline on the pumpkin with a pencil. Skipping this sketch means you might have to pull out misplaced nails, leaving visible holes.
  2. With your pattern ready, start pushing the nailhead trim into the pumpkin skin. For fresh pumpkins, your fingers should be enough—no hammer required. Faux pumpkins may be tougher, but you can still press them in like pushpins.
  3. If working with a real pumpkin, some juice may seep from the puncture points initially. Simply wipe it away; once the surface heals, the leaking will stop.
  4. Keep inserting nails until your full design is finished.
