Directions
- Untwist 3 wire hangers and use pliers to straighten them. Attach one set of ends by looping and twisting them together. Braid the three wires, then shape the braid into a ring and fasten the remaining ends by looping and twisting.
- Tear every newspaper page into four sections until you have around 160 pieces. For each piece, pinch the center and fold into a flower-like shape, then staple the pointed ends about 2 inches from the tips.
- Begin at any spot on the wire wreath that isn't the seam. Push the florets into the braided wire with the stapled end going in first. The braid needs to be tight enough to hold the paper securely.
- Work in a well-ventilated space with your wreath resting on a newspaper-covered surface. Spray the entire wreath with black paint, let it dry, then add a second coat. Next, lightly mist the wreath with brown paint to create depth, allow to dry. Finish with a final thin coat of black spray paint and let dry completely.
- For the spider, unwind the leftover wire hanger and cut it into four pieces, each 8 inches long. Cut four fabric strips measuring 8 1/2 by 1/2 inches. Wrap each fabric strip around a wire leg and hand-sew the seam using a slipstitch.
- Cut a piece of fabric that is 5 by 2 1/2 inches. Place batting on top, then fold the fabric over it and sew the seam closed with a slipstitch. Tuck the ends under and stitch them to create rounded edges, forming a small cylinder.
- Wrap a length of twine tightly around the cylinder about 2 inches from one end, creating two unequal sections for the spider's body. Stitch the four legs onto the bottom of the body. Use pliers to bend the legs into shape. Finally, secure the spider onto the wreath using floral wire.
